How to Use the Attention Insight Chrome Extension

Every page is designed to guide visitors: to the product, the key message, the next step. But visitors decide within seconds what to look at, and if your key message or CTA isn’t among the first things they notice, it may not be noticed at all.

Attention Insight Chrome extension V3 predicts where visitors are likely to look on a webpage. It analyzes the Current view or Full page and shows predicted attention, focus, clarity and other visual-attention metrics directly in your browser.

1. How do I install the extension?

  1. Go to the Chrome Web Store and find Attention Insight.
  2. Select Add to Chrome.
  3. Pin the extension to your toolbar so it’s always one click away.

  2. Click the Attention Insight icon and log in.
  3. Under Attention Scan, choose Current view or Full page.

The results open in a new tab within seconds.

3. What is the difference between Current view and Full page?

Current view scans only what you see on the screen now. Full page scans the page in screen-height parts, predicts attention for each part and joins them into one map.

4. What do the results show?

At the top of the results, switch between three views: Original, Attention and Focus.

What does the Attention Heatmap show?

Where visitors are most likely to look. Warm colors (red, yellow) mark the areas that attract the most attention, while cold colors (blue) show the least. Read more

What does the Focus Map show?

What visitors are likely to notice in the first 4 seconds. Visible areas are more likely to get noticed; areas under the black overlay are likely to be missed. Check that your product, value proposition and call to action stay visible. Read more

What does Clarity show?

How clear or cluttered the design looks to a first-time visitor, from 0 to 100. The extension shows the optimal range next to your score. Read more · What is the best Clarity Score?

What does the Focus Score show?

How concentrated attention is. A high score means attention lands on a few areas; a low score means it’s scattered. A high score doesn’t mean attention is on the right elements, so always check where it lands. Read more

To improve either score, see How can I improve my Clarity and Focus Scores?

What does First-Glance Text Load show?

How long the most-noticed text takes to read, in seconds, compared with a 4-second attention hold.
