Meet a UI/UX Designer Mateusz Gdanietz! Mateusz believes that it is important to have an open mind because you never know where you will find inspiration.

Why have you decided to step into design field?

I have always been interested in new tools, technologies and experiments with them. About 15 years ago, I discovered Photoshop. I started by designing very simple things like avatars and banners. Then pages and applications.

Over time, it was getting better and better. I started to study graphic design, read more books and articles about design and user experience. I feel that I am learning something new all the time and it gives me great satisfaction.

What inspires you and why?

Every day I feel inspired by many things that surround me. Nature, architecture, ordinary objects of everyday use. Sometimes I am surprised what can inspire me. I think, it’s important to have an open mind for everything. Learning never ends.

How do you measure the success of your design?

I can find out after I get feedback from clients, users or other designers.

I am very happy when the product is used and people praise not only the visual appearance but also the intuitiveness and usability.

I try to measure user satisfaction as early as possible. Often it is necessary to test many different versions to finally find the golden mean.

What is your biggest challenge in design creation process?

One of the biggest challenges is to create a user-centered product that also satisfies stakeholders or clients. Often, what draws users’ attention is different from what a business wants. This requires a lot of conversations, tests and of course creativity and empathy.

What principles do you follow when creating attention grabbing design?

The hierarchy in design is very important to me. Hierarchy can be expressed by contrast, saturation, size of elements, order or proper use of white-space. All these elements together are able to create an eye-catching design.
