ElevenLabs vs Respeecher: What’s Actually Different

Both platforms work with AI voice. Beyond that, they’re built for fundamentally different problems. Comparing them on feature lists misses the point — the real gap is in what kind of production each one is designed to serve.

What ElevenLabs does well

ElevenLabs reached a $3.3 billion valuation by early 2025. The platform supports over 70 languages, instant voice cloning from short audio samples, AI dubbing and translation, and a developer API with low latency for conversational applications. Its Flash model targets roughly 75ms inference time.

For content creators building podcasts, YouTube content, or marketing materials, ElevenLabs is fast and capable. For developers prototyping voice agents, the API is accessible and well-documented. The voice library is large, onboarding is quick, and for high-volume output in creative contexts, it delivers. Where it gets complicated is at the high end of production quality — ElevenLabs is optimized for volume and versatility, not for the exacting standard of film post-production or broadcast.

What Respeecher does differently

Respeecher was built from the start for professional media. Founded in 2018 in Kyiv, the company’s technology combines public AI models with proprietary algorithms, supported by a team of 15+ sound professionals who work on every project. The human refinement layer is what makes the output hold up in professional production environments.

The production track record is substantial. In film and TV: The Mandalorian (young Luke Skywalker), Obi-Wan Kenobi (Darth Vader using James Earl Jones’s archives, with Jones later retiring from the role), The Brutalist (Hungarian pronunciation for Adrien Brody and Felicity Jones), Oscar-winning Emilia Pérez (musical numbers, preserving original performances), and a National Geographic Endurance documentary (voices of Sir Ernest Shackleton and five crewmates recreated from 100-year-old archives). In gaming: God of War Ragnarök (the first game to credit a synthetic speech artist) and Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty (reviving the voice of the late Miłogost Reczek for the Polish release). In documentary: Respeecher recreated a synthetic voice of Richard Nixon for the MIT-produced “In Event of Moon Disaster,” shown at the Amsterdam Documentary Film Festival.

Beyond entertainment, the use cases extend into sports — recreating the voice of Puerto Rican sportscaster Manuel Rivera Morales for the Tokyo Olympics and Vince Lombardi for Super Bowl LV. And into healthcare, where Respeecher has collaborated with researchers to help laryngectomy patients recover a natural-sounding voice.

The platform supports both speech-to-speech and text-to-speech conversion, multilingual generation, a voice marketplace, real-time voice conversion via custom plans, a Pro Tools plugin, and a developer API.

On consent: every voice requires documented permission from the original speaker. Respeecher publicly endorsed the NO FAKES Act in 2024. For productions that go through legal review — which all theatrical and broadcast releases do — that documentation is a practical production requirement.

The real comparison

If you’re generating voiceovers for social media, e-learning, or app interfaces at volume, ElevenLabs is faster and cheaper to get started with, and it handles that category of work well.

If you’re working on a film, a major game release, a broadcast documentary, or any project where audio will be reviewed by sound professionals and eventually heard by audiences who know what real speech sounds like — Respeecher is the appropriate tool. The production credits aren’t marketing; they’re the clearest evidence available of what the platform can actually deliver.

The two platforms aren’t really competing for the same customer. ElevenLabs is built for accessibility and scale. Respeecher is built for the projects where getting it wrong would show.
