Bella Sonin on Bridging Aesthetics, Systems, and User Experience

Bella Sonin is a visual communication and UX-focused designer whose work explores the relationship between aesthetics, meaning, and clarity. With a strong foundation in design and visual communications, she approaches design as a bridge between complex ideas and intuitive understanding. Her work spans branding, UI/UX, motion, and experimental design, where she consistently focuses on one core idea: design should make information clear, engaging, and meaningful. In this interview, she shares what drew her into design, how she measures success, and why working with AI will shape the future of the field.

“I’ve always been drawn to visual communication, how design can turn complex ideas into something clear and engaging.”

Why did you decide to step into the design field? What inspires you?

I’ve always been drawn to visual communication, how design can turn complex ideas into something clear and engaging. What inspires me most is the connection between aesthetics and meaning, especially when design bridges different worlds like research, systems, and user experience.

How do you measure the success of your design?

Success is clarity and impact. If users understand the message instantly and the experience feels intuitive, the design works.

What is your biggest challenge in the design creation process?

Balancing creativity with constraints time, technical limits, or client needs and knowing when to stop refining.

What principles do you follow when creating attention-grabbing design?

Clarity, strong hierarchy, contrast, and consistency. Attention comes from being precise and intentional not just loud.

What, in your opinion, is the future of design? Or what do you think the next big change will be?

I think the future of design is strongly connected to AI, not as something that replaces designers, but as a tool we need to understand and use. Just like any other design tool, it expands our capabilities, and designers who know how to work with it will have a clear advantage.
