From Business Strategy to UI – Interview with Randall Cruz Cárcamo

For some, design begins as a conscious pivot. For others, it develops organically from the work they’ve been doing over time. For Randall Cruz Cárcamo, stepping into UI design is not about starting over, but about evolving his experience in strategy, growth, and business performance.

Operating at the intersection of data, systems, and user experience, Randall Cruz Cárcamo approaches design with both precision and empathy. His perspective extends beyond visuals, focusing on how interfaces communicate, shape decisions, and bring clarity to complexity. In this conversation, Randall Cruz Cárcamo reflects on his path into UI design, how he evaluates success, and why the future of design lies in balancing creativity with strategic thinking.

"For me, success happens when aesthetics and purpose work together."

Why did you decide to step into the design field? What inspires you, and why?

I stepped into design because I’ve always been drawn to the power of visuals to influence perception, emotion, and action. For me, design is more than making things look good — it is a way to communicate ideas clearly, create connection, and give identity to brands, people, and projects.

What inspires me most is the challenge of translating something abstract into something visible, memorable, and meaningful. I’m inspired by strong visual storytelling, modern branding, culture, architecture, fashion, and by people who use creativity with intention. I enjoy design because it sits at the intersection of aesthetics and strategy, and that balance is what keeps it exciting for me.

How do you measure the success of your design?

I measure the success of a design by both its visual impact and its effectiveness. A successful design should immediately capture attention, communicate the right message, and leave a lasting impression.

I usually look at whether the design solves the original problem, whether it connects with the target audience, and whether it elevates the brand or project it represents. If a design is visually strong but fails to communicate clearly, then it is incomplete. For me, success happens when aesthetics and purpose work together.

What is your biggest challenge in the design creation process?

One of the biggest challenges in the design process is finding the right balance between originality and clarity. I want my work to feel distinctive and memorable, but it also has to remain functional and easy to understand.

Another challenge is knowing when a design is finished. As a creative, you can always refine, adjust, and rethink details, so part of the process is developing the judgment to stop at the right moment. I see that challenge as something positive, because it pushes me to maintain a high standard in my work.

What principles do you follow when creating attention-grabbing design?

When creating attention-grabbing design, I focus on clarity, composition, contrast, hierarchy, and emotional presence. I believe strong design should guide the eye naturally, communicate quickly, and still have enough personality to be remembered.

I also pay close attention to balance — between boldness and elegance, complexity and simplicity, creativity and intention. I try to make every element feel purposeful. For me, attention-grabbing design is not about visual noise; it is about creating something strong enough to stop people, but refined enough to keep them looking.

What, in your opinion, is the future of design? Or what do you think the next big change will be?

I believe the future of design will be shaped by a deeper blend of creativity, strategy, and technology. AI will definitely change the speed and workflow of design, but I do not think it will replace strong creative vision. Instead, it will make taste, direction, and conceptual thinking even more valuable.

The next big change will likely be that designers are expected to do more than create visuals — they will also need to think like strategists, storytellers, and brand builders. In a world with more content than ever, the real value of design will be in creating work that feels human, intentional, and culturally relevant.
