Design That Moves People Forward – Interview with Romina Pachalian

In this interview, Romina Pachalian shares her journey into design, her evolving perspective on creativity, and how she approaches impactful visual communication. The interview is presented in her own words, offering a first-person insight into her mindset, process, and vision for the future of design.

“Design without strategy is decoration. And content without a clear system is noise.”

Why have you decided to step into design field? What inspires you and why?

I started as an independent illustrator, driven by creativity and visual expression. At that point, I decided to study graphic design and marketing because I wanted to understand how visuals actually impact people and communication.
When I began working as a designer in 2021, I specialized in social media and quickly realized that this was where the industry was heading.
Over time, my perspective shifted. Today, what inspires me the most is helping others grow. I use design as a tool to help professionals and brands communicate clearly, position themselves, and move forward in their business or personal goals.

How do you measure the success of your design?

I measure success by the impact that a design creates.
If my work helps someone stand out, communicate their value clearly, and attract the right attention, then the design is successful.
Design is not just about making things look good; it’s about helping people move forward with their message.

What is your biggest challenge in design creation process?

The biggest challenge is translating what the client wants to say into a clear visual image that is effective for their audience.
Many professionals have valuable ideas, but they struggle to communicate them. My job is to bring clarity and turn those ideas into visuals that people can quickly understand and connect with.

What principles do you follow when creating attention grabbing design?

For me, everything starts with branding.
Consistency is key. A brand should look and feel the same across all platforms, so it becomes recognizable and trustworthy.
From a visual side, I focus a lot on contrast and color theory. The way colors are used not only helps guide attention but also creates an emotional connection with the right audience and reinforces the message.
But beyond visuals, design should always be aligned with strategy and speak directly to the people you want to reach.

What in your opinion will be the future of design? Or next big change?

AI is already shaping the future of design, but the real challenge is how we use it.
As designers, we need to learn how to use AI as a tool, without losing our creative minds or strategic thinking.
The future will not be about tools; it will be about how well you can combine technology with human insight, creativity, and understanding people.
Having this mindset, for me, is a must to be aligned and up to date with technological trends, and not get lost in the future advances.
