This time an inspiring speaker from Norway is dealing with our four-question interview. Meet Stian Sandsgaard, a UI/UX designer who belongs to the Creative Digital Design Agency Unfold team.
Why have you decided to step into design field? What inspires you and why?
This wasn’t fully intentional, it was more of a natural transition. I worked in the VFX industry, doing 3D and Animation, then I had the opportunity to work on mobile apps and that gradually got me into design as I undertook more and more UI/UX tasks.
My inspiration comes from my inspiring colleagues who are amazing artists, it’s such a blessing to be surrounded by these talented people and being able to build apps and product that change people’s lives.
How do you measure the success of your design?
If I’ve created or built something that inspires or solves a problem for someone else.
What is your biggest challenge in design creation process?
Design is a lot like puzzles, you have to match the right pieces together. In the sense of design that comes in the form of balance, finding hierarchy, contrast and structure that play well together. It’s challenging but very fun and rewarding once your work starts taking form.
What principles do you follow when creating attention grabbing design?
There are too many to list, the more I design the more I uncover principles that make up a good design. Interestingly we are working on a book called Unfold principles which highlights some of these. We aim to release this book next year. A few worth mentioning however would be principles of hierarchy, contrast and color theory.
